Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the course certified?

Yes, the 5K/10K course has been measured for accuracy, meets criteria for USATF distances, and is certified ( (5K - #KS14002LJ and 10K - #KS14004LJ).  This ensures that each participant can reliably compare his or her performance to those of other 5K/10K races and be eligible for potential records and rankings, such as those for the RACE KC Series and Run Olathe Challenge .

  • What is the Tot Trot?

The Tot Trot is a short race for children 5 and under. It will start before the race at 7:45 AM. The run takes place in a circle around the grass lawn in front of the Johnson County Courthouse, and usually only takes 2-4 minutes to run. There is no charge, but each participant must submit a completed entry form with signed waiver of liability.

  • Do I have to register for the Tot Trot?

Yes, all participants must submit a completed entry form with signed waiver of liability. This can be done in advance, at packet pickup, or on race day..

  • It looks like the course is only a 5K.  What about the 10K?

The 10K is a double loop of the 5K course.  10K participants will be cheered on by spectators as they reach the 5K mark and start the second lap of the course.

  • Can I still register on race day?

Of course! You can still register at packet pickup before the race. Race day registration is $35.

  • When and where is packet pickup?

Race bibs and shirts will be available on the east side of the Johnson County Square in downtown Olathe in the lobby of the “Park Cherry Office Building” at 100 E. Park St.  Packet pickup will be on Friday, May 3, from 12 - 6 p.m. and on Saturday, May 4 (race day), from 6 - 7:30 a.m.

  • I registered but can no longer participate. Can I pick up my race shirt or transfer my registeration?

Yes, you can certainly still pick up your race shirt.  Alternatively, if you would like to tranfer your registration, please contact us immediately at runolathe@gmail.com.  We will do our best to accommodate your request but cannot guarantee it.

  • Where can I park?

Parking is available on nearby streets and at the garage located southeast of the Johnson County Courthouse between Cherry and Chestnut streets.  Please be attentive to police, course monitors, and road blocks near the course.

No refunds will be given.

  • Will there be water stops?

Yes, there will be a water stop available midway along the course for both the 5K and 10K loops.

  • Is this a closed course?

No, this is not a closed course.  However cones, course monitors, and Olathe Police will be along the entire route to protect runners and guide traffic accordingly.  All residents along the course are notified in advance about potential closures and delays.

  • Are headphones allowed?

Like most road races, headphones are not recommended.  This is to maintain a safe and courteous experience for all participants.  Should you absolutely insist on wearing head phones, please keep the volume low enoujgh that you can be alert and aware of your surroundings, espeically since this is not a closed course.

  • Are jogging strollers or roller skates/blades allowed on the course?

No roller skates, roller blades, motorized vehicles, or any other wheeled transportation are allowed on the race course, with the exception of that used by police and officials who assist and monitor the course. Jogging strollers are strongly discouraged as this race course does not always allow ample room for strollers and other wheeled transportation to maintain a safe distance from other runners/walkers, especially since 10K participants will be running a double loop of the course and may need a clear path to pass.
